The Burnet High School baseball team crushed Lampasas 13-6 April 5 to complete the series sweep in District 24-4A play.

Burnet scored two runs in the first inning and set the tone for the rest of the game.

“Which definitely helps the pitchers,” head coach Russell Houston said. “I think we got back to who we are at the plate. We hit the ball a lot better. We got back to being us. (On April 2 Lampasas) pitched really well. The wind was weird. (On April 5), we went back to grinding out at-bats and fouling out bad pitches and getting two-out hits. We talk all the time about fouling off close pitches and getting a better pitch you can handle and extend the at-bat as long as you can.”

Noah Crawford, Dash Denton and Trey Morrow each had hits for extra bases.

Pitcher Cason O’Hair picked up the win, throwing for five innings where he allowed most of the runs with four walks and had 2 strikeouts. Cooper Farris was on the mound for the final two innings.

“Cason is a competitive kid,” Houston said. “When he wasn’t perfect with himself, he was frustrated with himself. Cason threw really well in tournament season. He hasn’t had the opportunity to pitch in district. I thought it was the right time to get him going. If we’re going to make a deep run, we need more than two (pitchers).”

The Bulldogs (19-2, 9-0) haven’t lost since tournament season in more than a month. Houston said he didn’t know how long the winning streak is.

“It’s quite a few,” he said. “I think kids understand the situation and find a way to get things done.”

Burnet is the district leader followed by Lago Vista and Georgetown Gateway at 6-3 each, Jarrell and Lampasas at 3-6 each and Marble Falls at 0-9.

Burnet travels to Georgetown to face Gateway Tuesday, April 9, with the junior varsity playing at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity following at 7 p.m.
